LIFE: NYE Party Essentials.

Wednesday, 30 December 2015

Dress | Lavish Alice,  Bag | Accessorize, Shoes | New Look

If you're planning to get a little social this NYE and go out to a fancy party then there are a few must haves you need to make room for in your handbag. The following can be applied to any party situation really, its just the fact that the next event on your social calendar will be New year!

When you attend a party, 9 times out of 10 this will mean you will sacrifice comfort over style and put on some heels. I honestly live in flats 99.9% of the time, so when it comes to gaining those few inches in height, I need something to soften the discomfort I often face. The solution to this is to add some Gel cushions in my shoes, They aren't miracle workers but they definitely make a difference and make standing up/dancing the night away till the clock strikes midnight more barable!  - If like me you end up taking your shoes off come the end of the night, rather than walking around barefoot try something a little more glam like these from Butterfly Twists, they fold up to fit in your handbag making them a definite party essential!

Beauty wise, you will require a good lipstick. I'd like to go for something with a bit of fancy packaging so this YSL one is perfect! I also have the nude shade everyone and their mum bought a couple of years ago. It goes without saying that these draw attention when you whip them out of your bag to reapply. Quite often I will get a new perfume for Christmas. Its the done thing isn't it really, considering the sheer amount of gift sets available around the festive season. NYE if the perfect time to rock a new scent, or stick to one of your favourites! I received Viktor & Rolf Flowerbomb last Christmas and it is still going strong. It is rather pricey, so I tend to keep it for special occasions only!

My nail game is not strong at the moment, so falsies it will have to be. Elegant Touch have such an amazing range to choose from, I've got this Rose gold set to hand to give myself a bit of extra bling for the when the new year rolls in. If I've got false nails on, I always make sure I have the glue in my handbag. The same goes for eyelashes. No one wants to be partying the night away missing a fingernail and with their eyelash half hanging off! Don't leave the glue on your dresser girls, make sure you transfer it into your handbag!

Of course there are other essentials you will need in your handbag such as your purse, ID, a pocket mirror for touch ups, maybe even a hip flask if you are feeling the pinch after Christmas ;-)

What are your handbag essentials for a party?

The Book: The book of you The Author : Claire KendalBuy: Amazon
Rating 4/5
Clarissa is becoming more and more frightened of her colleague, Rafe. He won’t leave her alone, and he refuses to take no for an answer. He is always there.Being selected for jury service is a relief. The courtroom is a safe haven, a place where Rafe can’t be. But as a violent tale of kidnap and abuse unfolds, Clarissa begins to see parallels between her own situation and that of the young woman on the witness stand.
Realizing that she bears the burden of proof, Clarissa unravels the twisted, macabre fairytale that Rafe has spun around them – and discovers that the ending he envisions is more terrifying than she could have imagined.

I love a good thriller book and this did not disappoint. We follow Clarissa while she takes on the role of a juror during a 7 week  court trial, hoping this will result in some light relief from her work Colleague Rafe. Rafe hasn’t just taken a liking to her, he has become obsessed. Turning up in places Clarissa wouldn’t expect to see him, knowing things about her that no one else should really know,   He also sends gifts that others would probably be appreciative of but not Clarissa… because they are from him. Throughout the story he makes suggestive/odd comments to her about their ‘relationship’ & being an all around creepy guy! Claire Kendal does really well at creating a dislikable character in the form of Rafe. Throughout the book I was on Clarissas side, also feeling extremely creeped out and in a way trapped by his actions. There were points of the book where I read it thinking ‘Oh god, what is going to happen next’ which of course kept me turning the pages which is always a good thing!

I read the book at a steady pace, about half way through where it started to get really exciting I was definitely hooked, another one where I longed for my lunch break or commute to be able to read. My one gripe with it though would be the ending. Throughout the book I couldn’t wait to see how it would all finish, but I will admit I was a bit disappointed!  It was all a bit much & happened really quickly. It literally is a case of ‘Oh that escalated quickly!’ It’s not so much that I didn’t like the outcome it just came across a bit rushed. As though Claire Kendal suddenly remembered ‘ooh I need to round this all up, tie up the loose ends & create the end of the book’

Despite my dislike for the ending this is a book I would  still recommend picking it up & giving it a  read. I found it gripping and exciting, a definite read for those of you like the thriller type story lines. Claire Kendal has a great skill at making you feel like you are actually there and in Clarissas position!

Check out the other girls  Chloe, Sarah, Alyssia, Charli, Lorna, Lizzie

Next months book (January) is What Alice Forgot by Liane Moriarty. If you would like to join in send me an Email, tweet or leave a comment on this post!

This Christmas will be a little different for us, we are heading over to Dubai! My sister in law lives over there and for Christmas 2015 we are all getting together in warmer climates to celebrate the festive season. Long haul flights aren't something I frequently encounter, however I have gone on few in my lifetime to know there are a few essentials you must have with you when travelling!

Starting with clothing I keep it casual, comfortable and effortless. Leggings and some form of loose fitting top are key when I fly. I cant be dealing with tight jeans or tops! Chances are I will be falling asleep so I wont want to wear anything that is too constricting! Footwear wise, again I want to be comfortable I'll wear something like my Nikes or Converse*. My trips away often involve a bit of walking so these double up as suitable footwear for such activities. Depending on where I am flying to I will take some form of scarf. This time I will take a pashmina as it serves its purpose of avoiding the cold air conditioning on the plane as well as being an essential when visiting a country where I want to be respectful of their beliefs. I may need to cover up if I am visiting any religious buildings.

It's a given that there will be in flight entertainment on the plane I've definitely already scoped out what the airline is offering in December and semi planned what films I would like to watch!  The flight to Dubai is about 6 or 7 hours long I think so like any other long haul flight I will need a multitude of items to keep me occupied! When I don't want to watch a film or sleep I will probably listen to some music or read a book either one I have bought or something on my kindle. As you know I have really got back into my reading and have a nice little TBR pile stacking up, leaving me with the big decision of which to take with me. The whole trip itself is going to be rather relaxed so I can probably get away with taking a couple with me.

I'm never really one to take much interest in beauty while on a flight, but I know with Long haul my skin is going to feel horrible after sitting in that cabin for hours on end. For that reason I will take a couple of products on board with me to ensure I don't feel too gross by the time we land. The unexciting products like deodorant, lip balm and a travel toothbrush/paste will be present in my hand luggage along with a couple other bits and bobs to help my skin. Our flight is overnight, so I will bare all in the airport and go makeup free (with the exception of my brows!), allowing my skin to breathe.  Face wipes will be used to freshen up, Spritz a bit of toner to keep my skin hydrated and then finish with a fairly thick moisturising cream to keep my skin feeling nourished.

That's pretty much all I need. I'm pretty low maintenance when it comes to flying, I cant be dealing with a huge bag of stuff to lug on and off the plane! I hope to watch a film, maybe read a bit and then get some sleep! We do arrive in Dubai at 4am afterall!

What are your flight essentials?

Much love,

We all like to be organised around Christmas time, sometimes though some names can slip through the net and you find that you've forgotten to get someone a gift.  Ah panic stations... or maybe not. Why not purchase something that can be sent direct to their door. I recently received a bouquet from Blossoming gifts, which would make a perfect last minute gift for someone, given that there is such a wide selection of bouquets and gifts available to purchase. Receiving flowers brightens your day, I don't care what anyone says. It's nice! You know that there is someone out there thinking of you!
I reiceved the Autumn Glee bouquet, which I wish I had more photos to show you but I've lost my memory card #Bloggerfail. You'll just have to take my word for it, it was beautiful. The bouquet consisted of roses, lillies, agapanthus and berrys. The lillies from this bouquet actually lasted the longest of the bunch which was nice as I am always a bit sad when I have to throw a bouquet away.

If you'd prefer to send something other than bouquets,  as the brand name suggests, they offer other items like plants, alcoholic beverages, personalised gifts as well as hampers. There's definitely something for everyone so there's no need to worry about getting stuck on what to send to your friend or family member! They do some really beautiful box photo frames like this one for a baby's first year. It would make a brilliant gift for a new parent.  Blossoming gifts are offering next day delivery up until 23rd December, so get in their quick if you would like to send a little last minute gift to someone you love.

To tempt you further use the code BGIFT33 for 33% off your purchase (Excluding the flowers by post range) I'm off to have a little last minute browse to see if there's anything I think would be suitable for friends I wont be seeing over the festive period as I will be away, so they know I am still thinking of them!

Have you ever ordered anything from Blossoming Gifts?

After You by Jo Jo Moyes. (£12.99)

Having read Me before you and falling head over heels in love with the book I, like many others were keen to get stuck into the sequel offering from Moyes.Once I finished October's book club book (Read about that one here), I got stuck right in, it was an easy to read and I finished it relatively quickly, however I have to say I wasn't as impressed with it as I thought I would be.  Maybe I expected too much due to the fact Me Before You was bloody amazing imo..but...You know when you read something and think, you should have left it there, You didnt need to add to it? I feel that way about After You.  I don't want to give too much away incase you are someone yet to read it... Lets just say Louisa's character frustrated me so much with her choices and actions in After You. There were sub plots which felt a bit unnecessary, and other parts a bit dragged on (Lily's story). I wont lie, I bloody loved Will as a character in Me Before you (Love him even more now that Sam Claflin is playing him in the film!) so maybe that is one reason why I couldn't get as excited about this book?  I dont know! I didnt hate it, I did like it  but I'm dissapointed it didn't live up to my expectations..By all means read it if you are a fan of MBY and form your own opinion though!

Still Alice by  Lisa Genova (£3.85)

Still Alice is a book that touches on the subject of Alzheimers disease, something that I was quite interested in when we read Elizabeth is missing for book club. When  a book is turned into a film I have pre expectations that it will be good. In this case it was. I really enojyed reading about Alices journey from the disagnosis through to how she copes living with the condition. Not only does this story touch on what the carrier of the disease is feeling, it also helps get more of an understanding how close family and friends adjust to the situation. It was a book I could dip and out of easy, this wasnt one where i longed for my commute so I could read a couple of chapters like other books have done, but definately one that I looked forward to picking up and getting stuck into each sitting. With its scientific references in regards to Alzheimers I found this book quite informative, helping me understand a condition that really I dont know much about. Its written really well, I could definitely feel myself getting attached to Alice, willing her to remember where she left her books, or what way to turn to get back home. This is one I would definitely recommend to others if you fancy reading something that has that hard hitting realness of  life and the unexpected things it throws at you.

Have you read either of these books? If you have any recommendations of books I should try, leave the titles and authors in the comments.

BEAUTY : The Tigi S Factor range.

Wednesday, 9 December 2015

Over the past few weeks I've been giving some of the products from Tigi's S Factor range a try to get my hair ready for the party season! Tigi isnt a brand that is only accessible in hair salons anymore, You can find it stocked on various online beauty stores as well as discovering it in your local Tkmaxx, so if you've been thinking about giving some of the products a try then theres no shortage of places to find them.

Long time readers of my blog will know that I have tried a couple products from the range in the past. The Roost Boost spray* being one that often cropped up in monthly favourite blog posts! I haven't used it for some time so it was nice to start using it again. By doing so provided me with a bit of a trip down memory lane (Mainly due to its delicious strawberry & cream scent!) It still doesn't dissapoint. Providing me with a nice little bit of added volume along with leaving my hair smelling so nice! Even Tom comments on it! When I've wanted a bit of extra hold I've been giving my barnet a spritz of the Vivacious Volume hairspray* to keep everything in place and provide texture to my do. I use this when I have the time to experiment with different forms of plaits or some form of messy bun thing on the top of my head!

I was pleased to see I had also been sent the Volumising Shampoo & conditioner*duo to try. When you use the same products from start to finish you expect good results. They are meant to all work together afterall, aren't they? After a few weeks of adding these into my hair washing routine I can report back that 1. My hair definitely had a bit of a boost in the volume stakes when using both the S&C plus to root boost spray and 2. My hair smelt A-M-A-Z-I-N-G - and for that reason alone you should go out and buy the range! ha!

Depsite the fact Tigi started as a Salon only brand, it's actually very affordable. Yes you do pay a little more than your average trip to boots but I think some of the products are worth it. You can quite often find discount codes online if you want to save a little too which is always something I look out for. (I'm one of those people that probably wont order anything if I don't have some kind of discount code!) In all seriousness though, I have been impressed & would look into purchasing some of the S&C for myself when I finish the bottles I have. We know I have and will purchase the root boost spray too! In regards to the hairspray. I do use it sparingly to be honest so I probably wouldn't need to buy anymore for a while. I did like it but whether I like it enough to purchase it myself I am not sure! In most cases, hairspray is hairspray. The added extra with this one from S Factor is that it smells nice!

Have you tried anything from Tigi S Factor? I've heard good things about their Serious conditioner.

Much love,

During the festive period it is an unwritten rule that you should add a bit of sparkle into your life. There are a variety of ways you can do this, I decided to have a little rummage through my own beauty stash to see what products I can use in the upcoming month to add that extra somethin’ something’ to get into the festive spirit!

Keeping it simple you could paint your nails with something sparkly to get yourself feeling festive. Pretty much every brand going brings out something sparkly around this time of year. My personal choice for a bit of glitter is Boom Boom Pow from Deborah Lippmann. It looks great on its own or layered on top of other shades. More budget friendly brands to try would be Barry M, Models own and Essie.

When it comes to eyes you can go wrong with a nice gold shimmer. I love my NARS Eyeshadow duo in Alhambra which works well all year around not just at Christmas! The duos are a bit pricey but I would say totally worth it! The shadows are a dream to apply and the pigmentation is really good. I’m a big fan of NARS eyeshadows and I have a few palettes in my collection. You could find other gold toned shadows in palettes from Urban Decay, Makeup Revolution & Too Faced. Keeping with the eyes, you cannot go wrong with a pot of literal glitter for your eyelids. I have Mac pure glitter pigment in gold which I like to bring out at this time of year. Just take a look at this blog post where I had a play around with pigments. They are a great way to add some instant sparkle to your look! You could even do something similar for new years – Is it too early to be taking about new years eve?

For that glowy complexion this Christmas I highly recommend getting your hands on Thebalm Mary-lou Lumanizerhighlighting powder. This finely milled champagne powder looks dreamy brushed over the top of your cheekbones and other highlight points on your face. Once you’ve tried it you will understand the hype around it, trust me! Thebalm have actually bought out a highlighting trio palette called ‘TheManizer Sisters’. All three of their beautiful highlight powders in one handy palette. If you haven’t added it to your Christmas wishlist then I suggest you do so now!

What products do you use to add a bit of sparkle to the festive season?

Much love.

FASHION: Christmas LBD with George

New Years eve Christmas outfit flatlay

Christmas party season is in full swing. I even went out last night with a few of my work colleagues for a little bit of a festive shindig - Followers of me on snapchat will have possibly seen the snaps! (xo_Leannemarie is my username) December is probably the busiest month of the year when it comes to socialising and parties, so when George at Asda contacted me to see if I wanted to put together a outfit and share my christmas party tips with you all I said yes and headed off to their website to have a browse!

You can never go wrong with a LBD in my opinion. If you look at my wardrobe the majority of its contents in black. I personally find Black clothes easy to wear and if you want to inject a bit of colour you can do so with other items of clothing or accessories. The dress I chose is a lovely tiered style bejeweled skater dress* The fabric is really lightweight and flowy making it a good dress if you are a little self conscious of your tum, it skims over all the right areas! Note that it does have an elasticated waistband so you can eat lots of festive treats should you choose to do so! The bejeweled neckline adds that bit of festive sparkle making it a perfect christmas party dress. The best part? It will cost you less than £20! £18 to be exact! What a great deal!

#Georgepartytip #1  Wear something you are comfortable in. Plan ahead and make your choice based on whether you will be consuming a lot of party food/christmas dinners!

Christmas outfit of the day
The moment you realise you have an audience when taking photos on your balocony ^

We have to be realisitic, it is December and unless you are a person with super powers which means you dont feel the cold, you will have to layer up. George offer a nice range of blazers to keep your outfit looking very smart. Perfect if you plan to go straight from the taxi to the party. Alternatively or you can be like me and just head for the finishing straight with a warm coat, just incase you need to spend more than 2 minutes outside in the cold! This camel pea coat* is gorgeous and works really well against the all black outfit. It's still smart enough looking to keep the outfit looking polished, but still keeps the chills at bay. It's priced at £25 which is a really good deal for a a jacket of this style. The quality is lovely and I've been complimented a lot on it!

#Georgepartytips #2 Keep warm. No one one wants frostbite the flu after their Christmas shindig!

I decided to accessorize the look with a simple pair of strappy heels - not particularly weather appropriate but they look good don't they! I never need to carry too much with me when I attend a party so a small bag does the trick for all the essentials. You can go one of two ways when accessorizing. If you have details on your outfit such as patterns or embellishments, keep the bag and shoes rather simple. If you opt for an outfit which takes more of a block colour route, amp it up with brightly coloured shoes or a embellished handbag.

#Georgepartytips #3 Think carefully about your accessories, make sure they compliment your outfit.

Do you have any festive party plans for this month? Let me know what you are up to in the comments & share your tips!

Much love,

The book: TechBitch
The Author: Lucy Sykes & Jo Piazza
Where to buy: Amazon
Rating: 4/5

Imogen Tate, editor-in-chief of Glossy magazine, is a legend in the fashion world. But when she returns from a sabbatical to find her twenty-six-year-old former assistant, Eve Morton, behind her desk, she realises times are changing.Armed with a business degree, naked ambition and an iPhone, Eve announces she has been brought in to turn Imogen's beloved magazine into an app. With herself at the helm.
In this terrifying new world, Imogen is almost invisible. In place of her team of dedicated staff is a constantly evolving line of twenty-something bloggers at their desks day and night ('Only losers need sleep!'), amateur snaps instead of elegant photo shoots, and a URL address in place of Imogen's glossy pages. But Imogen isn't ready to give up her hard-earned career without a fight. Where Eve has Twitter followers, Imogen has experience, talent and real relationships, and she's prepared to fight for the fashion world she knows and loves. Even if it means going to war with a ruthless Techbitch

Sometimes it's nice to pick up an easy, non challenging read. This is exactly what Techbitch is. If you are a fan of really girly chick lit then this is the book for you. Imogen returns to work and everything has changed. The magazine she's helped grow as Editor in Chief has done a complete 180 and instead of being a print based publication its going online.. which of course would be fine apart from the fact Imogen doesnt know much about the online world and is completely out of her depth. A lot of things have changed, if you look at it realistically possibly too much in such a short space of time. But I can look over that little issue! It was nice to read something that I could in a way, as a blogger relate to. Social media and the online world plays a big part of my life and this book shows how much of an impact various channels can effect it. Now I don't believe that at 42 years old Imogen wouldnt know how to use some of the digital applications put infront of her. I mean 42 isn't that old!

I grew to hate Eves character, She is a complete bitch, annoying and rude. There werent really any other standout characters within the book with it predominately being based around the relationship of her and Imogen. I could say it would be expected given the title of the book so it wasn't that much of a shock to me. There were funny bits, bitchy bits, awkward moments but then also some really nice ones. Like I said it wasnt a challenging read at all. I actually finished it in a day. Personally it was one I couldnt put down and just powered through. There a couple of unbelievable moments within the story hence the 4/5 rating but overall I did enjoy it.

I know chick lit genre isn't for everyone. However if you fancy something quick and easy to read it's definitely worth giving a go!

For December we will be reading 'The Book of You' by Claire Kendall.

Much love

There are times, when you don’t need to shell out mega bucks to find a beauty gem. This was the case when browsing the makeup aisles of boots looking for a more winter appropriate lip colour a couple of weeks ago. Yes we all know about good ol Rimmel 107, That berry hued lipstick. A firm favourite of Zoe Suggs along with everyone in the beauty community it seems. But I already own this and to be honest, even though I found a way to make it work for me I don’t  really wear it too much. I still find it a bit awkward to apply... I don't have time to faff with a lip brush with every application! Recently I have found myself drifting towards lipliners and using those as a lipstick, they are much easier to use on the go. It’s been working well. One shade I have actually repurchased a couple of times is also from Rimmel. The Exaggerate lip liner in East End Snob. It’s easy to apply, the colour is lovely for day time, the colour lasts and hardly costs the earth… with that in mind, I thought why not check out what other shades they have on offer. Maybe they’ll have something a little more suitable for winter.

I knew they had brought out some new shades so was certain I would probably find something suitable….and I did. Enter the shade 105 ‘Under my spell’. It’s a lot darker than I would EVER go for. But you know, I’ve been feeling a little brave and thought WHY NOT. Being part of the same line, it has all the qualities of East End Snob but just the other end of the shade spectrum! This has swiftly become the shade I sport on the weekends, leaving East End Snob as the more work appropriate option for during the week!

At £3.99 it is an absolute steal, I know I will probably find myself buying another before this one runs out. I’d be tempted to look at some of the other shades too. If any of you have any recommendations then please do leave a comment. I think I’ve discovered a new favourite lip product! If you want to see what it looks like on then head over to my instagram account

Isn’t it nice when you don’t dread a product running out because you know you won’t have to live off beans on toast to replace it?

Much love,
 London Retro Metropolitan Frames* (£95)

Another pair of new glasses courtesy of the brand London Retro available at Glasses Direct. I always find glasses shopping so hard, so when an email came through to my inbox asking if I would like to collaborate with the brand again I jumped at the chance seeing as I am already a fan.
I now know what suits me which makes it a bit easier for me when it comes to deciding on new frames. This time around I decided to go a little bigger with the Metropolitan frames, which I believe are unisex. To mix it up slightly I chose to for for the black/brown style frames instead of my usual black. I will be honest I am a little dissapointed because I thought all the frame would have a tortoise shell effect not just on the bottom half of the frames. I guess on the plus side it makes a subtle change which I can easily get used to so all it isn't the end of the world!

As I've mentioned before in previous posts about the website, they do offer a free home trial where you can pick 4 different frames to try out before committing to buy. Something I may consider next time if I want to give a different brand  a try other than London Retro Glasses! Sometimes it is a case of 'if it isnt broke dont fix it' This brand works well for me and they aren't too expensive either really. None of the frames are over £100 which is good for a branded pair of specs. Tom recently bought new glasses in store when he got his eyes tested and ended up spending a small fortune! If you are looking to save a few pennies it is often best to have a look to see what you can get online first!

Perhaps one day I will be brave enough to try contact lenses - because lets be honest there are some occasions where you want to just show off your makeup and glasses do kinda get in the way of that! I'm just a bit scared! I have quite dry eyes aswell so I don't know whether contacts would make it worse? Calling all Contact Lens wearers, share your wisdom and advice!

Do you wear glasses? What's your favourite brand for frames?

Much love,

It’s been a while since I’ve done a favourites post on here, so why not get the ball rolling with Octobers better late than never eh? Personally I had a very busy month meaning it flew by and I can’t quite believe we are in November now! The countdown to Christmas has begun! Sorrynotsorry.

We all know I love a good handbag so when I spotted this bag inspired by the infamous Chloe Faye I had to buy it. It cost me just under £15 which included postage from HK. I know some people can get a bit dubious when it comes to purchasing from countries like this due to the usual long weight to receive items. However this was not the case here, the bag arrived within a week of ordering which I was extremely impressed with, I honestly thought it would take longer! I wont ever be able to afford the real deal but, I change my mind so quickly with handbags its probably best I don’t part with too much cash! The seller also has it in the tan shade if that’s what you prefer, I am gutted I couldn’t get the black. Black goes with everything!

Not that the following item could fit in my Chloe Faye inspired bag I have still been loving it all the same when using something bigger. This Michael Kors Jetsetter wallet* from Tessuti has been a welcome addition to my small MK family. I treated myself to the Large Selma tote 2 summers ago on my honeymoon, so it was only right to eventually get a wallet to match. I know the pink isn’t exactly a ‘winter’ colour, but I love how it contrasts against the black Selma, making it really stand out. There’s enough room for all my cards, coins and lets be honest… ALL THE RECEIPTS.

Fashion wise it’s been all about these ankle boots that came from Marks & Spencer of all places! I never tend to go in there really if I am honest so this was a stroke of luck really! One rainy Saturday afternoon I ran in for shelter (note to self get a small umbrella!) from the horrendous rain. While browsing I found these gems. The only ones left on the shelf and in my size. It was fate. At a bargainous £39.50 I headed swiftly to the till and bought them! I am not lying when I say these haven’t really left my feet since. They look great with skinny jeans, even dresses and skirts. The perfect al rounder boot which are comfortable and look stylish! I also feel that because they are M&S the quality will be a bit better making them last longer.

Other things I have enjoyed doing during the month of October is Reading (Check out Octobers book club post here) Filling the flat with beautiful candles like the ones mentioned in this post and also making plans for the festive period.

What have you been enjoying this past month?

Much love,

The evenings are getting colder & darker quicker, which means I am pulling on my cosy knits like there's no tomorrow when I get home from work! Nothing beats getting in from a days hard work, throwing on some leggings and a nice big knit to keep you snug! The high street has it's fair share of decent knitwear on offer at the moment, therefore I've done a bit of browsing for you and picked 20 knits which wont break the bank but will keep you feeling warm and cosy this winter.

I'll be honest, I am tempted to purchase a few of these myself given how cheap they are! I definitely like the monochrome style jumpers the best. The bigger and slouchier they are, the better in my opinion! You just cant go wrong with a bit of b&w! Get in from work, throw one of these on, make yourself a hot choc and chill for the rest of the evening with a couple of movies or a catch up of TV! Perfect!

Much love,
It appears that now is the time for many people on my facebook friends list to start making some extra money by signing up and selling beauty products from particular brands. Why not, it is Christmas soon after all, I am all for if you can make it work for you and you are honest about what you are trying to sell to friends and family. I've mainly been seeing posts relating to Younique pop up on my feed as well as Forever Living. Having never tried any of these brands before I was willing to trial a few products for my friend Sarah who has recently become a representative for Forever Living.

Sarah provided me with a basket of products to try, which I could pick and choose what I wanted to sample. I felt was a really good idea as it means I had the option to test something out before going ahead and parting with my cash. Its just a fact of life that we aren't all going to get along with certain products no matter where they come from, so it's really nice to have that option to have a little try before hand! I'm not sure if this is something all reps do though so you would have to check with your nearest one if it's something they offer.

I had the products for about 2 weeks, so I thought it would be nice for you all to read what my first impressions of the products were as I'm sure like all other products, people like to do a little internet research on others thoughts of products before committing to buy!

Forever-living-forever-aloe-moisturizing-lotion-review-blogAloe Moisturizing Lotion : £12.73
This moisturizer is multipurpose one. You can use it all over body or on your face if you would prefer. I chose to trial it as a nightly facial moisturizer because that was how I could incorporate it into my routine (I also didn't want to take the mick and use up the entire tube from Sarahs Sample basket!) If you didn't know already Aloe Vera is one of the main ingredients in all of Forever Livings products. With this in mind I thought that the products would...well smell like plants. However I was wrong. This moisturizer has a really nice subtle scent which is not overpowering in the slightest, combine this with its ability to absorb into my skin relatively quickly made it a winner in my books. Each morning when I woke I felt like my face had a really boost of hydration, with the colder months now upon us my face has felt a little dry. The heating going on, being out in the elements on my commute, this product has helped combat this dryness issue! So as first impressions go I did like it!

Aloe Jojoba Shampoo  £14.71 | Aloe Jojoba Conditioner £14.71
I switched up my regular shampoo to try this pairing for the duration of the trial. On average I wash my hair every 3 days, however this can be more frequent if I actually decide to go to the gym, which I did do during this time period. Therefore I managed to use the products a few times before giving the basket back. The shampoo I really like actually. It's pretty thick in consistency, Gel like even which I found a bit strange at first but I got used to it. The main thing that I liked with the shampoo was that a little goes a long way. So even though you would be paying a bit more than your average trip to boots for haircare, I feel it is worthwhile in the end as it will last ages! Personally I love my conditioners really thick and creamy so I can get a full coating of product on my hair Unfortunately the Jojoba one from Forever has a thinner consistency than the shampoo - which threw me! This may be something that others prefer but for me I wasn't as much a fan. With both of these products I would say you can smell the Aloe Vera but it didn't bother me too much as it's a hair product and hair products usually smell a bit plant like! ha! I would say after constant use my hair didn't necessarily feel more moisturised but it had definitely gained some extra shine - which is hard to do when you have bleached hair! So with that in mind i was impressed. I'd probably get the shampoo but personally for me the conditioner isn't what I look for in that sort of product. - Handy you can purchase them seperately eh!

 Forever Aloe Scrub £13.44
I have a bit of a love hate relationship with body scrubs. I've used some in the past that have been really abrasive and have left my skin feeling quite sore after use. Thankfully this wasn't the case when trying this one from Forever Living. The exoliating beads in the scrub are extremely small making the exfoliation very gentle. I suffer with Keritosis Pilaris on my arms, which means they can get quite bumpy at times. With the regular use of this scrub when I showered, it definitely improved the condition on my arms without leaving them feeling irritated. I would recommend if you are looking for a gentle body exfoliator that isn't harsh at all!

Forever Bright Toothgel £5.98
Given its popularity this is one of the products I was keen to try out the most. I recently saw post online about the different colour bands on toothpastes. If it has a red band on the back, its full of chemicals. Black and it’s all/mostly natural products. Forever Bright has a black band - which right from the go is a plus for me. The product is a gel formula rather than paste, which doesn’t take long to get used to. Although aloe is a main ingredient, it is still minty in flavour making it a nice product to use on your teeth. Despite the bright green colour of the gel! It does say it’s a brightening toothpaste, which I personally feel you need to use for at least a month to truly test the effects. No toothpaste will change the colour of your teeth after a couple of weeks use in my opinon. As I knew I wasn’t going to be able to use it for long, I didn’t take a before photo for comparison. I probably will purchase a tube of this in order to try it for a longer period of time and get a true idea of it’s brightening effects. It only costs a little bit more than what I would pay for toothpaste in the supermarket & on the plus side there aren’t any chemicals in it, which is better than the red band ones obviously. Worth a go in my opinion!

So there you go, my first impressions on a couple of the products available from Forever Living.  I hope this has been helpful to some of you! I know I tend to do a bit of googling when a new brand or product pops up on my radar! Another thing I should add about Forever Living is that they are on PETA’s list of companies who do not test on animals which adds to the appeal. If you would like to know more information about products, or even purchase some to try you can check out Sarahs Forever Living facebook page.

Have you tried anything from Forever Living before?

Much love,

Whether you are a blogger or not you should always make the effort to take some time away from the internet. These days it is a big part of our lives, but we all need to remember to take time out every so often, its not healthy to be attached to our laptop or phones all the time! When it comes to blogging sometimes a bit of a break can do us some good, I know if I am having a bit of bloggers block I step away for a bit and usually come back to it feeling totally refreshed and motivated to create some great content. Those that don't blog, just put your phone down for a bit. Forget the whole 'if its not on instagram it didnt really happen' phrase that everyone seems to love. Go outside, make plans! There are other things that should take priority,

I will hold my hand up and say that I do not make plans with my friends as often as I should and this makes me very sad. It's easy to get distracted by your own goings on and forget that socialising with your mates can bring great joy to your life - ooh I sound a bit deep. It's true though, I always have a fantastic time when I have met with friends and 99.9% of the time when it comes to going our separate ways, we always make a point of saying we wont leave it as long next time...but we tend to.  It's nice to create new memories with them even if it's just popping around to their house for a chat. This is something I will definitely work on myself.

I'm not one to preach about exercise because I am not perfect, however I realise as I am getting older I need to make sure I incorporate some light exercise into my life which will be a benefit to my health. I have recently started to run. I took part in a 5 mile muti terrain run the other week which I completed in an okay time considering I was suffering with a bad cold! It's hard to run when you cant actually breathe through your nose! Going forward I want to make sure I keep up gentle runs regularly each week. It's a free and easy way to get active! I feel this is something everyone should bare in mind. I'm not saying you need to go and do a hard core gym sesh every day, however maybe try to make an effort to be a little more active. Go for a walk on your lunch break. Try a new sport with friends - make it a social thing. Netball seems to have made a bit of a comeback recently!

Just like your friends it's very important to make the time to go visit your family. I'm pretty lucky that I live close to my family, however on Toms side his family is all over the place (Scotland, Mexico & Dubai!) so we don't get to see them as often unfortunately! If you can make sure you make plans to see your family if you don't live with them anymore, if they are too far to visit then schedule in a phone call or skype! Family comes first before anything else so if you should definitely be making time to see/talk to them. With the Christmas season Upon us the chances are you will be seeing them a lot more.

As beauty bloggers having a pamper is something that we probably all do on a regular basis, however if it's an area you tend to neglect then you should make sure you run yourself a nice bath stat! What better way to relax than give yourself a bit of TLC, even if its just spending a little more time in the bathroom, grabbing your favourite book  and having chill  in the bath for a bit. You dont need to turn your home into a spa, but just take the time to pay a little more attention to yourself. Even if it's a little change like making sure you do apply your Body shop body butter after the shower. Or giving your hair a proper blow dry... Take pleasure in matching your finger and toenails when painting them. It may all be cosmetic but it's a bit of a mood booster too.

Do you make sure you fit these things into your routine?

Much love

The Book : The Letter
The Author: Kathryn Hughes
Where to buy: Amazon | Waterstones
Rating:  3/5

"Tina Craig longs to escape her violent husband. She works all the hours God sends to save up enough money to leave him, also volunteering in a charity shop to avoid her unhappy home. Whilst going through the pockets of a second-hand suit, she comes across an old letter, the envelope firmly sealed and unfranked. Tina opens the letter and reads it - a decision that will alter the course of her life for ever...Billy Stirling knows he has been a fool, but hopes he can put things right. On 4th September 1939 he sits down to write the letter he hopes will change his future. It does - in more ways than he can ever imagine...The Letter tells the story of two women, born decades apart, whose paths are destined to cross and how one woman's devastation leads to the other's salvation."

It's difficult to talk about this book without giving too much of the plot away. Unlike our last book for Book Club I feel the blurb is a true representation of the story and what to look forward to as you make your way through it. As it suggests, the events of the book all relate to a letter Tina finds while working in a charity shop, that for some mysterious reason was never actually posted. Despite troubles in her own life with her abusive husband Rick, she's determined to get the letter to its intended recipient. The Letter is a book that flips between time periods, which is something I was a bit apprehensive about at first. It's not often I read books that are set in the past. I'm very much a modern gal when it comes to book genres. The book switches between the 1940's and 1970's. The time period in which the letter was composed by Billy Stirling to Chrissie and then Tinas quest to find her. I feel the transition between the two was nicely done. The book is actually split into 3 parts, and if you read it, you will understand why. I do think this worked well despite a couple key points ending quite quickly which I felt were a bit rushed. I will also admit that I guessed the outcome of the book about midway through. It is a little be predictable once you get into the story, but I still enjoyed it!

Having seen reviews online before, where others had stated it was a bit of a rollercoaster ride of a book, I was waiting to go through a mix of emotions when reading. Which I wont lie I did to some extent however not so much that I would say it really moved me to show it on my face! Put it this way, Tom wouldn't have known I was reading something upsetting or something that angered me at the time! Overall I would say it was a pleasant book to read. I liked how easy it was to dip in and out of which was of course handy for me as I mainly read while commuting to work. I would recommend reading it if you wanted something for that exact purpose, perhaps a good holiday read. It's not too intense and dare I say it, you dont need to concentrate too much to keep up with the different characters.

BEAUTY: Boosting your perfume scent.

Wednesday, 21 October 2015

I’ve currently got a nice little selection of perfumes going on in my collection, but I will admit some of them aren’t as strongly scented as others which makes me a little sad. This is something that can happen though depending on your perfume of choice, where it’s from, how much you have paid for it etc. Higher end perfumes give a better scent due to the ingredients used. They are usually of higher quality than the cheaper ones available to purchase hence the higher pricetag. Not wanting to neglect any of my fragrances due to their weaker scent pay off or longevity I’ve decided to take action and follow a few steps in order to boost them a little. Here’s what I do.

Applying a perfume to moisturised skin enables to scent to stick better, therefore making a great canvas for your perfume. Obviously an unscented moisturiser would work best as you wouldn’t like scents mixing. However if you are one of those people that gets inundated with gift sets at Christmas the chances are you probably have a moisturiser lurking around that matches your perfume. Use that one to help boost the scent and make it last longer.
There are actually particular spots of your body you should spritz your perfumes. Your wrists (don’t rub them together after!) Your neck and d├ęcolletage are the main spots that hold the scent well. Sometimes for an extra boost I will actually spritz a little in my hair, it will absorb the perfume better than your skin!

I really like fresh fruity scents which means a lot of the time the longevity of the fragrance doesn’t last. If you choose a perfume with ingredients that are more powerful by nature such as woods, musks, incense etc they will last longer. Of course it’s all down to personal preference but it’s something to consider next time you are shopping for a new scent.

Ever walk past someone down the street and get hit with a wave of their perfume? Either they have a really expensive potent scent on or they’ve done a sneaky little trick by spritzing a little on their clothes. Particularly in the winter I spritz the scarf I am wearing with my perfume too, a bit like your hair certain fabrics will absorb the scent better.

Although it may look pretty and totally instagramable to have your perfumes all lined up on a tray on top your dressing table, it’s really not the best storage solution. The best way to store your perfumes would be in a cool and dark place like a drawer. Of course when you need to Instagram by all means take them out to set up but for the majority of the time, its best to keep them hidden away so they stay at their best!

Much love,

It wont be news to you that I love to have fresh flowers in my home. I've mentioned it before, They are a mood lifter, they make the room look a bit more put together. They simply look really pretty and make perfect props for blog photos! No one would say no to a bouquet of fresh flowers delivered! Whether you purchase them yourself or you are luckily enough to have someone surprise me with a bunch they are a welcome addition to any home!

I recently purchased various little plants to scatter around our home to add a bit of somethin' somethin' into each room. Succulents, Cacti and other easy to take care of house plants are my go to when it comes to any form of greenery but you cant beat mixing it up a bit with a few bunches of flowers now and again. I was kindly gifted this Peach Parfait bouquet* from Applelyard London. A florist company that I hadn't heard of before. They arrived in a large box, wrapped securely with bubblewrap so no damage could be caused in transit. No one wants to receive damaged flowers. I swiftly unwrapped them and popped them into a vase to admire them in all their glory! The Peach Parfait bouquet contains garden roses, vuzuela roses, memory lane roses, blue veronica along with other green shrub style leaves to bulk it up a bit. The combination of all of them together really is beautiful. They are a welcome addition to our living room.

If you aren't looking to send flowers, they also offer a great selection of different themed hampers to send to your loved ones which would be great for Christmas! - It's not too early to be thinking about Christmas gifts right? Biscuits, wine, cheese, cake and more! YUM! If you have friends or members of your family who prefer plants over bouquets they have them too, I know my Nan would probably prefer a good plant that she can take care of and watch grow.

Appleyard London have kindly provided me with a discount code to share with you should you want to purchase a luxury bouquet from their site. For 33% off simply use the code BLOG33 at the checkout! Make sure you take advantage of this discount, you might even need to sort out a last minute gift for someone so take advantage of their next dayflower delivery service that they offer on the site!

Have you had anything from Appleyard London before?

Much love,

We've all had that scare when we have to get our makeup applied in record time. It could have been because you over slept, your friends turn up and announce you are going out for drinks. Or maybe, just maybe your time management skills are not up to scratch and Netflix just takes over... Before you know it you have 5 minutes to get ready and your faced with a plethora products to choose from.
Fear not. I have compiled a selection of eye products which will infact assist you in looking even more beautiful (than your natural selves) & you will not have to worry about mutliple tools, shades or how good your blending technique is. A win all around, wont you agree?

A lot of high end brands offer pots of cream shadows within their collections however I personally my favourites would be the paint pots from Mac. Perfect for when you are in a rush but want a lil' something on your lids which is highly pigmented and lasts all day. I currently have a small collection in my stash. Bare Study is a beautiful champagne shade that looks absolutely beautiful on it's own, and also makes a great base when looking to do a more complicated look when you have time! For the opposite end of the spectrum I have the paint pot in Constructivist which is my go to when I want a bit of a smokey look. This metallic brown pigment works brilliantly on its own applied around the lash line with minimal blending for a sultry look!  A drugstore alternative to Mac Paint pots would be the Maybelline Colour Tattoo's (£4.99). These are easily accessible from most Boots or Superdrug stores. The colour range is fairly good and pigmentation is commendable. Definiately one to check out if you have a lower budget. And on Bronze is popular shade!

Shadow sticks are getting a fair bit of exposure at the moment and for good reason. A staple in many high end collections gracing our beauty halls they are popping up left right and center. Not only are they extremely easy to work with and apply, quite often they are available in a array of shades suitable for all. The Bobbi Brown shadow sticks are a recent discovery but I am already hooked. They are really creamy so work perfectly on the eyes, highly pigmented and blendable. Again another product that work well on their own for the girl on the go, or as a base if you have a little more time to spare! If you are looking for a more affordable alternative. Kiko have a range of Long Lasting Shadow Sticks (£6.90) which I am yet to try, however have seen many a blogger raving about! Like their higher end counter parts they are very easy to work with and come in a great selection of shades to choose from.

One wash eyeshadows are the ultimate go to product when you are in a rush. I've seen many a blog post sharing individuals favourites. Personally my go to shades of the moment are Urban decay Sin eyeshadow for a nice shimmery wash across my eyelids. The buttery shadows apply so nicely I literally only have to swipe the brush once! Paired with a quick swipe of liquid liner and I am good to go. For a slightly more dramatic look I will opt for Mac Sable. A cool metallic bronze that works great during the day or evening. If you are looking for something a little more purse friendly the Makeup Revolution Iconic Pro 1 palette (£6.99) has a fantastic selection of both matte and shimmer shades with high pigmentation making it a perfect palette for all sorts of quick looks.

What are your grab and go eye products, have you used any of the ones mentioned?

Much love,
